A fire at Painesville house caused an estimated $20,000 in damage on Feb. 6.
According to a Painesville City Fire Department news release, at approximately 2:49 p.m., the department responded to reported smoke from a home in the 300 block of Rockwood Drive. Occupants of the home had evacuated when crews arrived three minutes later.
According to the release, firefighters entered the structure and found a smoldering fire in the rear wall of the house, which was quickly extinguished. The house was then ventilated to remove remaining smoke.
The cause of the fire appears to be faulty electrical wiring on the rear outside wall of the home.
Painesville Fire received automatic mutual aid from Fairport Harbor, Concord Township, Grand River and Painesville Township Fire Departments. Painesville Police and Painesville Electric were also on the scene to assist.
According to the release, the American Red Cross of Northern Ohio was contacted to assist the family until the home can be reoccupied.
